Picture makers often make self portraits from time to time. I am no different, I guess it is because we are often making pictures for others. If we desire a picture of ourselves we have to model for it ourselves. We are also cheap models. I have made self portraits in other mediums such as painting and etching. This portrait was done using a mirror. Artists Such as Rembrandt Van Rijn painted self portraits all his life portraying himself in different ways. This invites us into the artists psyche and history.

I know many of you are wondering, what am I thinking? OK, I will tell you. I was actually looking in the mirror at myself and thinking about you.

This picture of at close friend’s wife was taken with available light, with a Leica IIIg and Summitar 50mm lens opened to f2.0. I think this is a good lens for taken pictures of women. It gives a nice smoothness to the skin and blurs the background nicely. Some lenses are overly sharp and unflattering to the subject no matter how nice looking the person might be. So keep those old lenses they have not lost their usefulness.

This image was taken with a Nikon FM with 50 1.8mm lens. Let me say this photo is not a Henri Cartier-Bresson style decisive moment photo, but one in which I asked Aunt Bertha to kiss Uncle Gus. Some folks think I just saw them in the moment and took the picture. They were close friends of mine that are now with the Lord. They are very much missed in my heart, but I have this moment of remembrance.

With this image I used my Leica IIIg with a Summitar lens to take a photo of Rosie of blogging for boomers This is a pretty active site that gives tips to boomers who want to blog or already blogging. Check out the podcast interviews by people such as Cathy Perkins TheWordPressWizard and Kevin Thompson’s review on BlogCatalog an excellent resource for anyone who is serious about blogging.

BlogCatalog can Connect you with other Photographers in the blogging community. This Image was taken next to a window to take advantage of the lighting. This is my favorite light source because it gives your image that much needed drama. My old trusty Leica Summitar 50mm is working for me again. You can get this Lens at really reasonable prices on www.ebay.com .
Some people like it and some complain about its lack of contrast, but I’m still having fun with mine.
