Camera Boomer - Ray Horner

How anyone can have fun with their camera

My Personal Philosophy

Ray with camera This is a space that will be devoted to photography. There will be some talk about what goes into the making of my images, the equipment used and the love of image making. I believe the camera to be the extension of the photographers mind like the brush is to the painter.

Although I work primarily with paints I visualize with the camera the same way that I compose a painting. For me the process and the planning is just as important as the actual painting or photo itself. The tactile feel of handling the camera and or brush, that is why my equipment must fit into my hands.

For me I will spend time hold the instrument that I will use. I still like holding my old Leica IIIg with it’s rounded edges it has a good fit in my hands. The new cameras are more ergonomic, but older equipment has an mechanical hand machined made quality that is hard to beat.

I was given my father’s IIIc in the mid-fifties when I was growing up in Texas. After a long time with digital, I’m moving back to film just to slow down. Actually, I’m looking at doing glass plates with a collection of plate cameras. Today I bought a IIIc and stumbled across your web site. Love your photos, and your philosophy.
